Linda Kawamoto Reid, is a hapa sansei whose family was affected by the War Measures Act in Canada until 1949. Her family was split across Canada due to forced dispersal but eventually reunited in Vernon, BC and returned to the coast in the 1950’s. In 1977, when she read her grandmother’s 1958 first-prize story about being a picture bride in 1907, it sparked a lifelong passion for genealogy and family history research. In retirement, she worked as a research archivist at the Nikkei National Museum (Japanese Canadian National Museum) from 2007-2023. Developing Nikkei genealogy classes, family history one-on-one Zoom sessions, she also secured a relationship with a like-minded genealogist in Japan who assists the Japanese Canadian community across Canada to acquire koseki and translation services. She is a member of the British Columbia Genealogical Society and is currently publishing a book on her Nikkei family history.
