Tamika Strong graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies. She received her Master’s of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and her Master’s of Archival Studies at Clayton State University.
Mrs. Strong spent 15 years serving Georgia’s citizens as a librarian in the DeKalb County Public Library System and the Georgia Public Library Service. In 2017, Mrs. Strong joined the staff at the Georgia Archives as a Reference Archivist. Since becoming an archivist, she has assisted researchers by connecting them to the vast resources available at the Georgia Archives. Recently, Mrs. Strong re-entered the library world when she joined the staff at the Auburn Avenue Research Library as the manager of the Reference and Research Division.
Mrs. Strong discovered her passion for genealogy after planning a successful series of tracing your family history workshops at a library where she worked. Since then, she has become more involved with genealogy and has presented more than 100 workshops at various institutions, including her Alma Mater, Emory University, the DeKalb History Center, and the Digital Library of Georgia. She leads a monthly genealogy discussion group and is active in several genealogy organizations. She serves as the Vice President of the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society. She also serves on the Board for the Friends of the Georgia Archives and History (FOGAH) and the Georgia Archives Institute (GAI). A thrill of the hunt type of researcher, Tamika enjoys assisting others in discovering their ancestors while trying to find her own.
